poplar fluff in my coffee

This is what the veggie garden looks like today. (Note the new plastic edging, installed most graciously by my resident beefcake.)

Meet today's MVPs after the jump.

MVP #1: Cilantro

You just know that basil in the background is jealous. Work it, Cil!

MVP #2: Mystery Plant to the left of the green pepper plant

I suspect this behemoth is the result of an errant sunflower seed. Either that, or somebody misplaced some magic beans.

MVP #3: JFK Roses

As I mentioned in a previous post, in the fall of 2010, this fella seemed to wilt prematurely in comparison to the neighbourhood roses, and so I thought he might have gone for the Big Sleep, but new growth in May (and, now, opening buds!) give me hope that Bette Midler was right all along. P.S. The hand belongs to my beautiful daughter, who is always very excited to see flowers blooming.

Odd Bird Consolation Prize

I call these guys "The Bearded Men", on account of their scruffy appearance. I did not plant them. They were here when we moved in, and, actually, I think this is what they look like after they finish flowering (a thin magenta sort of petal?). Perhaps they are the socially acceptable cousin to the dandelion. Quick, make a wish.
